What do I love about hockey?
"I love the atmosphere of a hockey rink and the relationships that hockey creates. Whether I am at a rink because I am going to coach my son, skate in a game, or just watch, when I walk into a rink it feels like a second home. I love the relationships that are created out of playing and coaching hockey and the automatic bond it creates with someone you may have met one minute prior, or the connection it revives with a former teammate or coach when you see that person after a long absence."
MAHA Representative - Ron White
Vice President - Jennifer Beverwyk
Hello! My name is Jennifer Beverwyk and I have three kids involved in GVAHA. My oldest son, Landon is 8 and is going to play on Mites for a second year this coming hockey season. Hayden is 5 and is going to play Cross-Ice and my daughter, Ainsley, is 3 and will return to Learn to Skate this season. My husband, Nate (or Coach Bev as some kids know him), and I are all in with all of our children. Nate played hockey growing up in Kalamazoo and continued to play as a member of the Grand Valley State University Division II team. We love the GVAHA family and the relationships we have formed through this amazing sport. Not only have we met some wonderful people, our children are learning valuable life lessons on and off the ice.

I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family of hockey players. Most of my winters were spent at outdoor ice rinks watching my brother and father play hockey. My love of the sport has continued to grow even more now that I am married to a hockey player, and we have been able to pass the love of the sport down to our daughter who now plays. There are many things that I love about hockey, but for me it is more than just the sport itself, the sense of family it creates, and amazing talent that it takes to play. What I love the most is the crisp cold air of the ice rink, the sound of the skates on the ice, the sound of the puck connecting with the stick, and all the memories and feelings these sounds bring.
