Tanner is the head coach for the 12U house team and is starting his 2nd year with GVAHA as Head coach (previously Bantam AA), he has also lead the GVAHA “learn-to-skate” and “learn-to-play” programs, and serving as a coaching advisor for the Franklin Park Panthers youth program during his playing career in college.Tanner grew up in West Michigan and played travel hockey through his youth career. He also played Grandville Varsity Hockey before moving on to play Division II Hockey at Robert Morris University.
Tanner believes in three metrics that gauge individual progress through the season. Growing an individual’s skills on the ice, how they grow as a teammate, and ultimately how they grow as a person. These three ideals are fostered through high tempo, heavily skill based practices, incentivizing mastery of skill and creativity. Small area games play a large part in this development without straying from working on proper form, and technique. We also run one practice a week with shared ice. This pushes players to get the most from each station and keeps the pace high. They get an abundance of coaching in a limited time, create relationships with players from other teams, and pushes them to either lead or reach a new level of competitiveness.
We are creating a fun, competitive driven system in which our players can see the most growth potential, following the ADM model of skill, hockey IQ and systems with their respective influence on today’s game. GO STARS!
